42 Ferraris made their way to the Shuttleworth Collection for the second Club Brunch of the year, the first being at The Motorist near Leeds. A wide variety of tipos were represented to the delight of public visitors to Shuttleworth with a matte red & yellow 296 proving quite popular.
It’s worth commending the efforts of members to make their way to the day in any car let alone a Ferrari, Bedfordshire was the wettest county in the British Isles after 3 months of rain in a week, with many roads flooded and subsequently closed.
This private collection was begun by Richard Shuttleworth. Pilot, racing driver, self-taught mechanic and heir to the estate, he rescued old aircraft and vehicles, bringing them back to Old Warden Park to restore. After his death in 1940, flying for the RAF, his mother Dorothy continued adding to the collection. Featuring six huge hangers full of rescued aircraft and other vehicles Shuttleworth is also home to the oldest still-flying aircraft in the world.
As the weather was so good the team at Shuttleworth gave members an opportunity to take a ride on a 110-year old bus around the estate, a wonderful addition to the day.
Photos and a full event report will be in an upcoming issue of the Club magazine, Ferrari.
