For a November Saturday the weather was unseasonably bright, dry and warm for this reunion luncheon at Prescott arranged to mark 35 years of the Club’s hillclimb championship. Past and present competitors turned up in a variety of vehicles ranging from an early Ford to our own marque’s very latest, in the form of a Roma.
Our Chairman and past series competitor, Christian Mineeff, gave the welcome speech which included a tribute to the late John Swift. John had been a keen competitor in the series since early days and, more recently, had taken on the running of our championship along with his wife Anne. His last outing at Shelsley Walsh saw him still competitive and taking home 12 points. All present gave a minute’s silence to mark his contribution to our sport.
A splendid three course luncheon, all arranged by Angela Preece and Chris Leach (Club HQ), was well received before most left their tables to visit the collection of photographs supplied by our Club Archive with additions from members on the day. These keyed lots of fond memories and the room was buzzing with conversations.
As the afternoon moved along some moved outside to talk cars with past Champion Richard Prior’s MGA being the main subject. Our thanks to the Preece team for organising it all and to Martin Jones for facilitating the use of the Prescott clubhouse.
